Simple Wood Box

This simple wood box is an easy build and can serve as a gorgeous rustic catch-all anywhere in your home.

You’ll need: (affiliate link proceeds are all donated to no-kill animal shelters and rescue organizations. Please do your shopping here to help raise money for animals!)

First, use the miter saw to cut the 1x4s to size.

Three of the 1x4s need to be the same length - whatever length you want. The last two pieces should measure 4 and three-fourths inches long.

Next, place one of the three same-sized 1x4s down and line another one up next to it at a 90 degree angle.

Shoot several nails along the length to secure in place.

Add the other 1x4 on the other side and nail in as well.

Nail a 4 and three-fourths inch 1x4 at both ends.

Use the wood filler to fill all of the nail holes.

Allow to dry according to the directions and use the sandpaper to sand smooth.

Spray paint the box over a drop cloth. I’m using Rust-Oleum’s metallic Oil Rubbed Bronze.

If you are using a knob, drill a hole in the center of both of the shorter 1x4s.

Secure in place with the screw. If you are using a handle, center it on the shorter 1x4s and screw into place.

The Simple Wood Box can serve as a catch-all for your favorite things...

as a pretty serving spot for parties...

or as a display piece filled with unique topiaries.
