Easy Outdoor Curtains

It’s fun to hang out on the patio but...

...sometimes, um, *privacy* can be an issue. Let’s make some outdoor curtains with a couple of flat sheets to solve this problem.

This project is being done on an existing covered patio with a wood frame. You may not need all of the materials or steps if you choose to hang your outdoor curtains in a different manner. This is just one of many possibilities!

You’ll need (shop on Amazon via THIS LINK to help raise monthly donations to no-kill animal shelters and rescue organizations. This affiliate link doesn't cost you anything to use):

Flat sheets and clip rings

A drill and a pilot hole bit, measuring tape, a pair of two-inch eye hooks, another smaller hook, wire, and wire snips.

Outdoor Water Shield spray fabric protector and a drop cloth. If you’re using flat sheets with color or a pattern, ensure that the Outdoor Water Shield spray also has a UV block in it.

First, measure an inch down from the top of place you want to hang your curtains. Drill a pilot hole...

and screw in an eye hook.

Do the same thing on the opposite side.

Wrap one end of the wire through one of the eye hooks.

String over to the other side and cut off where you have additional slack.

Add the clip rings to the wire.

Pull the wire tight and wrap the end of the wire through the other eye hook.

If you feel that the wire isn’t tight enough or your space is extra wide and needs more support, you can add the additional small hook at the middle point.

Wash and dry the sheets to get all of the packaging folds out.

Lay the curtains down over the drop cloth and spray with the fabric protectant. You’ll want to apply several coats on both sides to ensure the entire surface is well covered. This will protect the fabric from the elements and repel rain and snow. Allow to fully dry.

Once dry, clip the sheets onto the clip rings to hang. You can also iron prior to hanging or steam after hanging if wrinkles formed during the protectant spray process.

Pull closed for privacy...

Or leave open to frame your patio hangout.
