We’re styling our patio for springtime but the lighting is a little lax. So let’s turn a dollar store solar light into an eye-catching solar lamp.
You’ll need (shop for your materials on AMAZON - the affiliate proceeds generated via this link are donated to no-kill animal shelters and rescue organizations ❤ ):
A lamp base, a wire trash basket, super glue, a solar light without the stake, painters tape, a drop cloth, and spray paint. I’m using Rust-Oleum’s 2x Paint and Primer in a lovely Summer Squash color.
First, remove the clear part of the light and use the painters tape to cover up the solar panel and the light bulb.
Spray paint everything over a drop cloth – the lamp, the wire basket, and the side of the solar light.
Once the paint has fully dried, remove the painters tape.
Replace the clear part of the solar light.
Run a line of the super glue along the top edge of the lamp socket.
Place the solar light inside and hold in place until the glue sets.
Place the wire basket upside down and on top of the solar light. The basket is heavy enough to stay in place but not so weighty that it will be top heavy. You’ll want to be able to remove the basket and clean the solar panel when needed so that’s why I’m not gluing it in place. If wind is a problem, use thin wire to secure the wire basket to the light.
It's ready to use! Place it in a spot on your patio where it will get sun during the day so it will emit a beautiful glow in the evenings.
