"On The Fly...DIY" has released! When I began working with my VO coach, Moneen Daly Hart of MoVibes Voiceovers, she suggested I combine my two passions (voice overs and DIY projects) into one long term project - hosting and voicing a DIY show. While it's spent time simmering in the back of my head, slowly pestering me to just get to it, I started putting ideas and projects together until I couldn't sit on it any longer.
I actually agonized over the name of the channel more than anything. If it had been someone else's channel needing a name, I would have been able to pop out 20 things with no problems. But mine? Totally blank. Ugh. I finally decided on "On The Fly" because that perfectly fits the way my DIY projects go - they aren't planned, minimal (if any) directions, and I'm pretty much making things up as I go along. Usually that works. Sometimes...not so much... But I like the creative challenge that comes with working on things that way.
Episode One is an awesome firetable that I've been pretty darn proud of since I first made it a few years ago. A friend of mine had recently purchased a firetable at Restoration Hardware for $1,500 on clearance. $1,500...ON CLEARANCE. OMG. Yes, the table was pretty amazing and I loved the look. But I just couldn't fathom spending that kind of money. I buy mistints because I can't stomach paying full price for paint! So there was no way. But that didn't mean I couldn't figure out how to make my own for much, much less. And I did.
I've gotten a lot of use out of the firetable since I put it together and with every party or get together, I've had more and more people either ask me to make one for them or ask for the directions. So I figured the firetable was the perfect project to kick this show off!
